Early Intervention Q&A

What is early intervention?

Early intervention refers to getting your child a jump start on what the future might hold, in terms of orthodontic treatment needs. Kay Orthodontics as well as the American Association of Orthodontists, recommends having your children evaluated around 7 years of age. During this evaluation, Kay Orthodontics assesses your child’s teeth and can make accurate predictions about future growth and development.

Kay Orthodontics can detect conditions that might affect your child’s need for braces down the line. By evaluating your child’s growth and development at a young age, they can see how the rate of jaw growth and tooth eruption will affect their smile bite relationship.

What does an early intervention evaluation include?

The evaluation is a simple, straightforward process for your child. Kay Orthodontics will perform a thorough clinical exam to assess your child’s craniofacial growth and development as well as the health and position of your child’s teeth. They’ll also review any available X-ray images or recommend one be taken in the office to evaluate the position and size of the adult teeth that are still inside the jawbones.

What happens after an evaluation?

After your child’s evaluation, Kay Orthodontics sets aside time to talk with you about their findings. They also set aside time to get the early treatment started, if needed. They understand families have busy schedules, and they do not want you to miss more days from work or school to get the process started.

Why should I consider early intervention for my child?

Early intervention allows you and Kay Orthodontics to more effectively monitor the growth and development of your child’s teeth and jaws and begin a personalized orthodontic treatment plan right when it’s most appropriate.

To put it simply, early intervention in orthodontics allows for growth modification and guidance leading to shorter and simpler treatment plans once all adult teeth are present. Think about the health of your teeth like any other issue. If you get a head start and begin planning for treatment early, your treatment plan will be simpler, more effective, and is more likely to produce your desired results.
